 Gardening

Gardening is a very good therapy to be busy. One way one is creative and the other way one is able to  get rid of stress.
One appreciates more to work in the flower-garden, another likes to work in the vegetable garden.
Nearly all the seasons of the year there is something to do like planning, ordering, cleaning, planting, watering etc.
It all depends what you want to archieve with the garden.
Beside the human activity, one is totally dependant upon the weather.
One golden rule is still relevant: "The better the preparation the better the result".
     We have a flower-garden as well as a vegetable-garden.

One part of our vegetable-garden looks like this:

     The other part:

Now and then it is a hard job working in the garden, but is very nice to harvest.
Strawberries are very nice plants, because the produce a lot of fruit.

It looks very exceptional but (like already mentioned) a garden needs cleaning and one could use quite
conventional tools, like to be seen in the picture below.

We also have a greenhouse. It is nice to have a look at the inside.
The greenhouse is used for growing plants and vegetables.

The temperature is quite variable, depending upon the sunshine.
There is a need not to allow to much temeprature variation. Therefore
the greenhouse is fitted with flexible windows. By means of these windows
and the doors one is able to control the temperature inside.
These facilities are, during the summer not sufficient and two sides of
greenhouse are painted white to reflect the sunshine. This paint is of a
special type. During rain it is nearly transparant.
The picture below is taken from the (sliding)doors-position.

The shown rods are used for the tomatoos to allow them to grow
upwards in the wanted direction. Tomatoos are not strong enough,
especially when they carry fruit, to stand upright.
Below the table one is able to see long green leaves of a special type
of small red onions (sjalotten). They are bought in the toko
(Indonesian shop) and were flown in from Thailand.
We have planted them to see if they will grow in Holland.

This picture shows the table with tomatoo-plants, leek, endive etc.
Inside the greenhouse the tomatoo-plants are grown inside big plastic
pots. This is to controle the humidity and fertilisation.

The right-hand side of the greenhouse. This side is not painted,
simply because not shunshine will be obtained from this side (north).

The small plants next to the inner-tiles, are kang-kun.
We are waiting to see, how they will grow.

The left-hand side of the greenhouse with tomatoos,
                     Spanish pepper and Aubergines.

Gardening is not restricted to Holland, even in the USA people enjoy gardening. When they are over for a visit
they want to see our garden and the kind of vegatables we grow.

We enjoy our garden en we hope you enjoy your garden!
